It's official...Chris is a British-American

On January 20th, Chris was sworn in as an United States citizen.  This has been such a long, expensive, somewhat stressful process.  After years of working with an attorney, we decided we could file for naturalization on our own.  Thank goodness we did it correctly!

Chris had been studying for his test for months.  I am pretty sure he knows more about United States history than most people, he would be a great person to call on Who Wants to be a Millionaire!  He was so nervous and excited the whole drive there.  Once we found this nearly impossible building, we walked in and saw a huge room filled with people waiting to be interviewed.  The lady behing the desk was really friendly and told us that if he passed, there was a ceremony later today that he could be a part of.  I immediately got on the phone and extended my day off to a full day assuming that certainly in three hours he would definitely be called.  Staying true to the Godby luck, he was called in 20 minutes before the cutoff time for that day's ceremony.  He breezed through his test and was given the paperwork five minutes before it would have been too late. We quickly jumped in the car and headed to school to pick up Georgia so she could be at the ceremony.  My mom and stepdad also met us there.

There were 87 applicants and over 27 different countries represented.  The ceremony lasted a little over an hour.  During the ceremony, they took their oath, said the pledge of allegiance, and sang the Star Spangled Banner.  They also watched a couple of videos about the history of the United States.  Afterwards, we waited around and took lots of pictures.  Chris has been waiting for this day for a very long time, and we are so proud of him!

Final picture with his green card, he had to hand it in during the ceremony
